What words do you live by? “You are the artist of your own life, don’t hand the paintbrush to anyone else”. I try to be anyone’s puppet.
What or who makes you laugh the most? My brother and my friends.
How would your friends describe you? They would say that I am set for success I think?
What is your favorite dance style? Hip Hop
What hobbies do you have outside of dance? Tennis, cooking/baking, biking, rollerblading, drawing, and talking to my friends.
Other than necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without? Laughter
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? My mom’s rice with my Grandma’s beans, and collard greens and my dad’s grilled chicken.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be? Any beach with no hurricanes
What is your biggest fear? Not doing what I love in the future, being forced into something I’m not passionate about.
What is your favorite Holiday? Passover
What is your biggest pet peeve? Getting interrupted.
Is there a fun fact about you that people might find surprising? Not that fun, but people are surprised that I haven’t lived in the U.S. my whole life because I speak English well.
What is your True Color Personality Style? I tied orange and gold, and I agree with both. While my orange side of fun and freedom is easily visible, it is balanced by my not-so-apparent need for organization and structure.
Who is your idol? My brother, he is so organized with time, and always keeps to his commitments. But along with that, he always achieves what he sets out to do, and stays calm when it isn’t exactly the right turnout. He has inspired me to try many new things but find time and practice for each one. Love him with all my heart.
Why do you love to dance? I love to dance because it brings out my best while having fun. I can let out all of my anger or happiness with one head-hit, or one smile I make during a dance. Dance lets me feel in control and clear my head. All I can think about is what my body is doing, how it can be better. Performance really lets me bring out my true self be it through facial expressions or a pose.
What is your proudest accomplishment & why? My proudest accomplishment so far is how much I’ve grown in the cooking world.
What goals are you working on right now (in both dance & life)? Dance: flexibility Life: trying to enjoy a quarantined summer.
Tell us about a difficult situation in your life and how you got through it. What did you learn? Moving from Brazil to Florida was difficult for all of my family. We all already spoke English, so the problem had nothing to do with that. Moving caused me to miss my friends terribly, and a new school was a scary situation to say the least. As I made new friends
and months went by, I felt more comfortable at school and our new house. The experience taught me that with time things get
better, but there will be always something there to remind you about them.
What is the most daring thing you’ve ever done? The most daring thing I’ve ever done was parasailing at the last minute. I learned that a boat’s shadow can look like a whale about to attack you. But in all seriousness, I learned that spontaneity can be fun, but it should always come with a lifejacket in case things go awry.
If you’ve been to ADTC, what is your favorite dance camp memory & why? My favorite dance memory is rehearsing endlessly for a spring event at school. It was a series of dances that were embedded in my head, so all I had to worry about was marking. The way things came together was beautiful, but the event was canceled due to the virus.
What is your A.D.T.C. Superpower? Creator, I always try to creatively problem-solve, and love building on and improving my own ideas.
What do you want other girls to learn from reading your #ADTCidol bio & story? I want other girls to learn that they shouldn’t underestimate themselves because of their age, appearance, or other people’s judgements. Girls need to be confident, proud, and have faith in themselves. If somebody tells you that you are not good enough,
brush it off and shed no tears.
