A Note from ADTC’s Owner/Founder

A Note from ADTC’s Founder

Updated May 20, 2022

After safely operating in eight U.S. states in 2021, we can’t wait to be back together doing what we love in 2022 – our 20th anniversary summer! Now more than ever, we need the social, emotional & physical benefits of camp.

As we plan for this special anniversary summer, we SO wish we could go back to pre-covid programming. We want every individual camper & family to have the most positive ADTC experience possible! And in the ever-changing landscape of operating a residential summer camp in the time of covid, we also want to do everything possible to avoid needing to send campers home (or possibly even shut down mid-session).

Per current CDC guidelines, if any camper or staff member shows covid symptoms and/or tests positive at camp, regardless of vaccination status, they will need to leave camp. Most states where we operate will also require unvaccinated “exposed” campers be picked up (vaccinated exposed campers/staff will be able to continue with camp unless symptomatic). The stakes are just really high, and the #1 aim of our multi-layered 2022 COVID Action Plan (outlined below) is to keep our campers & staff at camp this summer.

We’ll continue to evaluate best practices & update this page on our website – should quarantine/isolation guidelines change and become less disruptive to our operations by (or during) the summer, we may update our mitigation plan and loosen our protocols. We will keep our families and staff up-to-date with all important information. Thank you for your willingness to do your part to help keep your camper healthy & ADTC operating for our 20th anniversary summer!

ADTC COVID Action Plan - Peace of Mind Policy

ADTC 2022 COVID-19 Action Plan:

We SO wish we could go back to pre-covid programming in 2022. We want every individual camper & family to have the most positive ADTC experience possible! As we navigate the ever-changing landscape of operating a residential summer camp in the time of covid, we also want to do everything possible to avoid needing to send campers home (or possibly even shut down mid-session).

Per current CDC guidelines, if any camper or staff member shows covid symptoms and/or tests positive at camp, regardless of vaccination status, they will need to leave camp. We will continue to evaluate best practices – should quarantine/isolation guidelines change and become less disruptive to our operations by (or during) the summer, we may update this plan and loosen our protocols. We will keep our families and staff up-to-date with all important information. Thank you for your willingness to do your part to help keep your camper healthy & ADTC operating for our 20th anniversary summer!

P.S. We learned last summer that additional health & safety practices do not detract from a full and fun ADTC experience! Not only that, but campers get the opportunity to practice adaptability ~ the #1 skill they’ll need for 21st century success!

PRE-ARRIVAL

ADTC is following American Camp Association & CDC guidelines for overnight camps again in 2022 and we strongly encourage all campers to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, including boosters for eligible campers eligibility is detailed here. We also request you follow CDC guidance for travelers in the 14 days before camp arrival to reduce exposure to COVID-19. Please continue to wear a well-fitting, high quality mask (surgical, KN95 or N95) in public indoor areas, on public transportation (including airplanes), and indoors in U.S. transportation hubs (including airports). If traveling by air, please consider testing as close to departure as possible (no more than 72 hours before travel).

Please complete and submit your Registered Camper Form by 3 weeks before your first camp session.

We request that all campers limit their risk of exposure in the 14 days prior to arrival at ADTC. Please eat outside at any restaurants, wear a high quality mask in public indoor spaces, and adhere to excellent hygiene. We recommend campers and staff also eliminate nonessential travel, and whenever possible, limit contact to immediate family members only (especially the 7 days pre-arrival).

The risk for contagious illnesses (including COVID, lice, strep throat, flu, etc.) is always a consideration for camps where children & staff live together in close proximity, even in non-pandemic years. We rely on parents to ensure that campers are healthy before they travel to camp. Please monitor the health of your camper daily beginning 7 days prior to camp with our Pre-Camp Health Screening Form. The best camp sessions start with healthy campers and this begins at home.

If at any time within 14 days immediately prior to arrival, 1) your camper tests positive or experiences COVID-19 symptoms, or 2) you learn she has been in “close contact” (as defined by the CDC) with an individual who has received a COVID-19 diagnosis or has experienced COVID-19 symptoms, she should not come to camp until she meets the CDC requirements for being in public spaces.

TESTING

All campers, regardless of vaccination status, must provide results of a negative COVID-19 test taken 1 – 3 days before check-in.

The test can be either a negative PCR test within 72 hours of arrival, or a negative antigen test (Telehealth Travel Certified or administered by a third-party) within 24 hours of arrival. Antigen tests can be scheduled at most local pharmacies or doctor’s offices. For at-home antigen testing with a Telehealth certification, we recommend OnPoint Testing ($23.99) or Azova ($20). Telehealth virtual appointments must be booked at least 1 week in advance! Parents are required to pay any out-of-pocket expenses incurred from pre-camp testing. We ask that campers isolate as much as possible following their test and before Sunday check-in.

Upon arrival at camp, ADTC staff will perform health screenings and rapid antigen tests (if needed) as part of the check-in process. Multi-session campers & staff will also be tested before the start of each subsequent session. During camp we will isolate and test campers or staff who present symptoms. Any camper who tests positive will need to be picked up from camp within 24 hours. Most states where we operate will also require unvaccinated “exposed” campers be picked up.

Vaccinated roommates & dance teammates in the same “cohort” as a positive camper will continue with camp unless symptomatic. Masking will be required in exposure situations. Asymptomatic exposed campers will NOT be tested at camp until day 5 after exposure (if camper has already left camp by day 5 after exposure, the camper’s parent will be responsible for testing them at home).

HEALTH HISTORY ADDENDUM (Saturday before your Sunday check-in)

Please submit this form online by 7:00pm Saturday before your Sunday arrival. A link to this Health History addendum will be sent via email & text to registered camper parents on Saturday. This is where we ask whether anything has changed in your camper’s vaccination status since you submitted your Registered Camper Form (for example, your camper became eligible for a booster and received one), COVID-19 health history, and pre-camp behavior in the 14 days before the start of camp. Please have your camper’s COVID-19 Test ready for upload along with her Pre-Camp Health Screening Form. This form is required for all ADTC campers in 2022.

CHECK-IN (2 – 4pm Sunday)

Campers may be assigned to a specific check-in time in the 2 – 4pm window determined by their designated dance team (which will be their “cohort” this year at camp). Both check-in and check-out will be completed outdoors when possible and masks are required when campers have their health screening (and whenever 6 feet of distance cannot be maintained from staff or other campers & families). One parent per-camper will be allowed in the dorms to help move in / unpack – we kindly ask that parents wear a well-fitting, high quality mask when entering all indoor areas on campus.

LIFE @ ADTC (during camp)

Health Screenings

All campers and staff will have a daily temperature & symptom check with their team leader before breakfast & warm-up. Reporting will be maintained as a confidential medical record. We will isolate & test any camper or staff member who has a fever or 100.4 degrees or higher or who has other symptoms of possible COVID-19.

Dance Team Cohorts

ADTC will operate in cohorts (dance teams organized by age) that serve as our “family” at camp. Dance teams live together in the same hallway, have meals together, dance together, and earn points by participating in various competitions & activities together all week. Most of the time when we’re with our dance team (separated from other cohorts), masks and distancing will not be required.

Dance Classes

Dance team cohorts will be 12 – 15 campers. Each dance team will include two dance groups (6 – 8 campers each) that are together for morning classes from 9am – 12pm each day (for “core classes” in jazz, hip hop & contemporary). Masks will not be required in core dance classes (except in exposure situations).

Electives, Field Trips & All-Camp Activities

When we interact with campers and staff outside of our designated cohort, we will follow the “2 of 3 Rule,” meeting two out of three of the following protocols:

  • Be outdoors
  • Wear a mask
  • Be 6+ feet apart

Masks will be worn indoors in public settings (on campus & on field trips), and in any indoor environment where we mix with other cohorts. Campers will be required to abide by the 2 of 3 Rule when participating in ADTC dance electives, field trips, and all-camp activities.

Dance Elective Example: Campers will need to wear masks and maintain 6+ feet distance from campers outside their cohort during indoor mixed elective classes. When electives are offered outside, campers will not need to wear masks if 6+ feet distance is maintained from campers outside their cohort.

Field Trip Example: On the bus to horseback riding, campers will need to wear masks and maintain 6+ feet distance from campers outside their cohort. Campers will not need to wear masks outdoors on the trail ride, except when a camper, staff member or guide outside their cohort is within 6 feet of them.

All-Camp Activity Example: Campers will need to wear masks and maintain 6+ feet distance from campers outside their cohort during indoor all-camp activities like Dance Idol & Dance Tech. When all-camp activities are offered outside, campers will not need to wear masks if 6+ feet distance is maintained from campers outside their cohort.

Meals

As always, campers will wash their hands thoroughly prior to each meal. We are following a staggered meal schedule with dance team cohorts assigned a meal arrival time to reduce the overall number of people in our cafeteria or designated outdoor eating area at any given time. While walking into and out of meals and while selecting food and drink options, campers and staff will wear masks. While sitting down and dining with your dance team cohort, campers and staff will not wear masks.

Friday Show

Our Friday Show is the highlight of each session. Protocols this summer will vary by location and parents should expect to mask and distance. If a show can only be offered virtually, we will have a videographer on-site so you can still see your daughter’s performances. We will communicate location-specific details about your daughter’s show closer to camp.

ADTC COVID-19 & 2022 Enrollment Q&A:

Yes, all campers, regardless of vaccination status, must provide results of a negative COVID-19 test taken 1 – 3 days before check-in.

Roommates & dance teammates in the same “cohort” as a positive camper will continue with camp unless symptomatic. Masking will be required in exposure situations. Asymptomatic exposed campers will NOT be tested at camp until day 5 after exposure (if camper has already left camp by day 5 after exposure, the camper’s parent will be responsible for testing them at home).

No, we are keeping the same vaccination requirements we had in 2021. While we strongly encourage all campers to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, including boosters for eligible campers (eligibility is detailed here), we are not requiring vaccination for camper attendance. Campers who are not fully vaccinated, including for COVID-19, must submit our Immunization Exemption Request Form in 2022. All ADTC staff are fully vaccinated.

If you cannot provide proof of a negative PCR or antigen test taken 1 – 3 days before check-in, then your daughter will not be permitted to attend & your tuition will be rolled over to 2023. For this reason and for the safety of our community as a whole, we highly recommend 14 days of low-risk behavior before camp.

Yes, all campers and staff will have a daily temperature & symptom check with their team leader before breakfast & warm-up. Reporting will be maintained as a confidential medical record. We will isolate & test any camper or staff member who has a fever or 100.4 degrees or higher or who has other symptoms of possible COVID-19.

Yes, campers should be prepared to wear a mask during certain times at camp, such as when six feet of distancing from girls outside their cohort cannot be maintained. Also, for activities that require transportation, masks will need to be worn on board. Campers will NOT need to wear a mask while participating in most dance classes & camp activities, especially outdoors or with their cohort (as long as appropriate distance from other cohorts is maintained).

We recommend campers & staff bring at least 7 well-fitting, high quality masks (surgical, KN95 or N95) to camp. The masks should:

  • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
  • Completely cover the nose and mouth
  • Be secured with ties or ear loops
  • Not have vents or valves
  • Allow for breathing without restriction
  • Not include any words, pictures or logos that may be deemed inappropriate, toxic or offensive

Yes! We will still have the all-camp team events & Friday Show we love so much! But we may require masks & physical distancing &/or move these larger events outside with our marley dance floors… Campers will be required to abide by the “2 of 3 Rule” when participating in all-camp team events, meeting two out of three of the following protocols:

  • Be outdoors
  • Wear a mask
  • Be 6+ feet apart

For example, campers will need to wear masks and maintain 6+ feet distance from campers outside their cohort during indoor all-camp activities like Dance Idol & Dance Tech. When all-camp activities are offered outside, campers will not need to wear masks if 6+ feet distance is maintained from campers outside their cohort.

During camp we will isolate and test campers or staff who present symptoms. Any camper who tests positive will need to be picked up from camp within 24 hours. We will inform all affected campers’ parents about possible exposure and monitor them closely. We must advise all camper families to limit their contact with others, especially high-risk individuals, for at least two weeks after returning home from camp.

If a session is canceled by ADTC before check-in and a transfer to another ADTC session or location is not possible, we will refund all tuition paid or roll it over to 2023. Otherwise, COVID-19 in a known risk, and refunds will not be granted for camp attendance lost due to COVID infection, exposure, or policy changes. For additional peace of mind in 2022, we strongly recommend families purchase camp program protection.

Note – If you have concerns about your daughter attending camp this summer because she (or a family member) has underlying health issues, or because you don’t agree with our current policies or possible changes we may need to make for the safety of our community, we urge you to consider postponing your ADTC registration until 2023. With the potential for disruption to our camp operations inherent in the current CDC quarantine/isolation guidelines, we need to be on the same team, with the same goal of healthy campers & staff this summer. Thank you so much for doing your part to help keep ADTC operating for our 20th anniversary summer!

On the bus to field trips, campers will need to wear masks and maintain 6+ feet distance from campers outside their cohort. Campers will not need to wear masks during outdoor activities, except when a camper, staff member or guide outside their cohort is within 6 feet of them. We’ll offer fun on-site “field trips” & dance electives as alternatives to any afternoon excursions we may need to cancel.

Yes.

In 2022, we encourage parents to drive their campers to camp themselves. If carpooling is necessary, campers should limit the number of people sharing a vehicle to three: two campers + one parent. Passengers should also consider testing, wearing masks, and adding fresh air through vents & open windows.

ADTC cannot provide transportation to and/or from airports this summer season due to unaccompanied minor protocols that complicate our camp operations by requiring our staff to leave camp for significant periods of time when they’re needed on-campus, as well as our own testing requirements/mitigation efforts.

Our goal continues to be to create as much of a camp “bubble” as possible, so campers will need to arrange their own transportation to camp and follow CDC’s travel guidance. We highly recommend all flight campers be accompanied by a parent or guardian due to the possibility of testing positive for COVID-19 on arrival or during the week. Any camper that tests positive for COVID-19 will need to be picked up by a parent or guardian within 24 hours.

We have used the ACA’s Field Guide for Camps as a template to create a plan specific to ADTC based on the recommendations from the American Camp Association, as well as guidelines from the CDC and states / schools where we operate. Our 2022 mitigation plan includes procedures for:

  • Camper and staff screening, including testing requirements before arrival at camp
  • Testing while at camp
  • Protocols for handling a positive test
  • Interactions between people within camp (cohorts, physical distancing, PPE, etc.)
  • Restrictions on leaving and returning to the camp during a session, for campers and staff
  • Cleaning and disinfection
  • Food service at camp
  • Transportation to and from camp
  • Transportation during camp
  • Activity procedures
  • Camp store procedures
  • Nurse visits and handling sickness at camp
  • Communication with parents

American Dance Training Camp has always emphasized health and hygiene at camp, even before the current pandemic. Each year we prepare for the possibility of communicable disease affecting our overnight dance camps. And ADTC has successfully kept our campers & staff safe & healthy for 18 summers. Many of the procedures we already have in place at camp are in line with the guidelines. Enhancements to what we already do, such as adjustments to programming, grouping, meals, transportation, screening, and other areas are outlined in our mitigation plan.

Good hygiene habits, regularly disinfecting spaces, and frequent and thorough hand washing are easy preventative measures for all illnesses. And Coronavirus is actually pretty easy to kill, according to the Association of Camp Nursing. Many of the protocols our summer staff follows to prevent and respond to illness are already in line with the guidelines in the ACA’s new Field Guide for Camps:

  • Staff confirms with families during check-in that their camper is in good health, has not been exposed to a communicable disease, and has not had fever, cough, shortness of breath, or flu-like symptoms in the past 14 days.
  • Staff regularly wipes down and disinfects doorknobs, tables, dance spaces and commonly touched areas.
  • Staff escorts students to the restrooms before and after meals, promoting frequent and thorough hand-washing techniques. Staff will put music on in the bathroom so girls HAVE to wash hands for a full 20 seconds using soap and warm water (they are free to dance for the full 20 seconds). Hand sanitizer is also widely available throughout camp.
  • Staff reiterates good coughing/sneezing etiquette (covering coughs and sneezes with the fold of the arm), and this summer adds VISUAL reminders.
  • If staff or students have a temperature of 100 degrees or greater or other relevant symptoms, they will be kept isolated while waiting to go home.

Our team is diligently working with the CDC, American Camp Association, as well as state and local officials to develop safety protocols in line with industry best practices. As this is an ever-evolving process with new information arriving daily and with health and safety as our top priority, we will notify our camp community of our plan in the coming months. Updates will be posted on this page.

Yes! You can register with confidence, especially considering you may need more flexibility this year. Please refer to our “Peace of Mind Policy” above!

Please refer to our Cancellation Policy above (and on our dates & rates page). COVID-19 is a known risk, and refunds will not be granted for camp attendance lost due to COVID infection, exposure, or policy changes.

Our small, family company is depending on our loyal community – parents and dancers like you – now more than ever to make it through this COVID-19 crisis. Each time you place your trust in us with the purchase of Virtual Dance Classes, Virtual Dance Camps, Online Private Lessons, Custom Choreography, DanceADTC Membership, and of course, overnight summer dance camps, we gain critical traction.

Similarly, whenever you invite your friends and family or spread the word about ADTC on social media, we get stronger. We are deeply grateful to you for being a part of our community and for your ongoing support in this challenging time. We look forward to delivering the highest-quality experiences to your daughter, without compromise, online and on campus.
