ADTC Adventurer – Meet Sadie A. from MA!
“My A.D.T.C. Superpower is I’m an adventurer. I love trying new things and meeting new people at home and at camp. If you never challenge yourself, you will never grow! Sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone, but who knows? Maybe you will find something you love!
This year I saved up enough to do a solo and go to a dance convention. I was really proud of myself for getting a job, saving money, and applying it to dance. It felt good to be independent and when I was performing it made me even happier because I felt like I did it myself.
This year was also my third year going to NUVO dance convention in February. I decided to compete an improv solo this year, which meant I would not know the song I was dancing to. I would just have to improvise my dance once I got on stage. It was really scary to be surrounded by all these amazing dancers who had been practicing their solos for months, when I didn’t even know my dance! It was also nerve-wracking to be performing in front of judges who had choreographed for famous dancers and TV shows, but I got on stage and did it! I was so proud of myself and it ended up being so awesome!
I want to inspire the other girls that read my story to not to be afraid to try new things. Whether it is a sport you’ve never tried, or even just making a new friend, you should always go out and expand your horizons. Every new experience is a chance for you to learn something and be a better person!”

ADTC: What is your True Color Personality Style?
Sadie A: I got blue which means I value harmony, compassion, and helping other people. This sounds a lot like me because I think it’s important to be positive and to think about others.
ADTC: Who is your Idol?
Sadie A: My idol is my mom. She is funny, kind, smart, and my best friend. She has instilled in me my “go with the flow” attitude about life, which has made me a better person and friend. She also always encourages me to stick up for myself and advocate for myself and others. My mom is there supporting me everywhere I go, from dance recitals to school events. She is the kind of person I aspire to be.
ADTC: Why do you love to dance?
Sadie A: When I’m dancing, it is like the rest of the world disappears. It doesn’t matter if I had a long day at school or I’m in a bad mood, when I dance all the negative emotions go away. Dance is a lot of work, but that is part of the reason why I love it. When you work hard on a trick for months, it’s so rewarding when you finally get it. So many dancers have inspired me both inside and outside of the studio and I hope to pass that on to someone one day.
ADTC: What goals are you working on right now (in both dance & life)?
Sadie A: Right now I’m working on teaching. I tutor a few kids in math, but I would love to teach more. It’s an interesting challenge to take information and teach it in a way that makes more sense to a kid. This year I also taught ballet to a little girl. This was a fun experience because it was my first time teaching and I taught the girl a dance that she performed for her family. I can’t wait for next year to assistant teach a hip hop class at my studio. I really hope to get to teach my own class one day!
ADTC: Tell us about a difficult situation in your life and how you got through it. What did you learn?
Sadie A: Last year my dog, who is older, was really sick and we thought he was going to die. This was really hard for me and my brother because he was our first pet and we have had him for 11+ years. Luckily, he got better and is still alive, but during that time I learned to appreciate the things you have every day and never take life for granted.
ADTC: What is the your favorite ADTC memory & why?
Sadie A: One of my favorite dance camp memories was taking a drill team dance class. It was a style I had never tried before, so it was hard, but super fun! One of my favorite parts about camp is getting to try new styles like African dance, Irish step, partner dancing, or even breakdancing!
