ADTC Dreamer – Meet Michelle M. from MA!
“I am definitely an #ADTCdreamer – I am confident that I can create change for the better. I hope I will inspire other people to make changes for the better.
A difficult situation I’ve endured in my life happened the year before my first year at dance camp when I found out that I had major scoliosis. My doctor said it was the worst spinal curve he’d seen in someone my age (I was 11). Not even 5 months later, I had to go through a major spinal fusion – a 9 hour surgery. After the surgery I went through excruciating pain and months of physical therapy and learning how to walk again. Now, although I have restrictions, I’m able to dance again and I feel as if I’ve improved massively.
I recently found out that another region of my spine is curving and pressing on my organs, meaning I will need another surgery. Although I’m scared, I hope I will get in as much dancing as possible before the operation because I won’t be able to dance again after I get it. Right now I am postponing it as long as possible so that I can keep dancing and going to ADTC for as much time as I have left.
I want other girls to know that no matter what your struggle is, you always need to have hope. And that even if it doesn’t seem like things will get better, they always do. You have friends and family and talent and you should never let anyone take that away from you.”

ADTC: What is your True Color Personality Style?
Michelle M: I am orange. I feel like it really does represent me because I’m very detail-oriented and a problem solver, but I’m also adventurous and impulsive.
ADTC: Who is your Idol?
Michelle M: Audrey Hepburn because although people only remember her vanity, she was a humanitarian and a powerful woman. Her philanthropic efforts are very inspiring to me.
ADTC: Why do you love to dance?
Michelle M: I love to dance because it gives me a safe space to feel however I want to feel.
ADTC: What is your proudest accomplishment & why?
Michelle M: My proudest accomplishment was getting an early scholarship this year. I have worked very hard to create opportunities for myself and believe that hard work can help you succeed.
ADTC: What goals are you working on right now (in both dance & life)?
Michelle M: Dance wise, I’m trying to let myself be more open to improvising in front of people as I have struggled with feeling self conscious about how others will react to my dance abilities. In life, I’m focusing on trying to get into a good college to become an MD Anesthesiologist.
ADTC: What is the most daring thing you’ve ever done? What did you learn?
Michelle M: The most daring the I’ve ever done was taking a train to New York City with some friends to go to dance auditions. Although I’ve learned to be less impulsive, I also learned to take risks, and I did receive great opportunities from the experience.
ADTC: What is the your favorite dance memory & why?
Michelle M: My favorite dance camp memories are always the first day and night at camp. I love the thrill of auditions and having my friends and teachers notice my growth as a dancer. Every year I look forward to reuniting with old friends and making new friends, as well as showing the new girls around. I look forward to the first day of camp all year, every single year.
